We are now in the final days of closing LYNX Project as an organization, but we are ecstatic to share with you that our education program, Composition of a City, will continue through the partnership of two organizations: MUSIC Inc. and Theater Y.
This past year, students had the opportunity to learn, create, and perform their own compositions at St. Agatha Catholic Church with the support of Music Inc. Along with our friends at MUSIC Inc. and Theater Y, this collaboration will allow this program to continue to serve students in the North Lawndale area of Chicago and empower the next generation of students to share their stories through original song.
In addition, we are also excited to announce that DJ and Ralph Savarese, the instructors for the Intro to Poetry and Poetry as Pattern classes, will be offering a new course in the coming months! The session will prioritize nonspeaking/minimally-speaking communicators, but is open to all who are interested. If you are interested in staying in the loop about this upcoming course, please complete the form linked below with your information so that we can pass it along to DJ and Ralph.
We cannot thank you enough for all the love and support these past nine years. We are forever grateful for the countless ways in which you have impacted our lives for the better. We cannot wait to see what is next for our incredible community of artists!
Dear Family, Friends, and Community,
It is with bittersweet love and gratitude that LYNX Project announces its closure on June 30, 2024, after eight exceptional years. This decision was not made easily and, due to various challenges, the Board of Directors has determined that this was in the best interest of the organization.
LYNX first started out when four students came together with a collective vision to bring art-song back to the communities. Over the years, the people that we met changed our lives, opened our hearts and ears, and helped transform our mission to what it is today.
LYNX’s mission of amplifying diverse voices and connecting communities through song commissions, inclusive concerts, and innovative educational programming can be seen in our output. We’ve released an anthology of commissions in addition to a recording album, beautiful small things, held poetry classes for the primarily nonspeaking autistic community, as well as adapted to the changing digital landscape with the Composition of a City curriculum for students with a diverse range of learning needs. Our concerts have included a sensory relief area for our audiences, creating a welcoming space for those who walked through the doors.
We are deeply and profoundly grateful to the poets who trusted us with their words, the composers who created magic, and the performers who brought it to life; they are the soul of the Amplify Series. We are also immensely indebted to Aasha Marie and Olivia Doig who created and cultivated Composition of a City, empowering students within, but not limited to, the Chicago borders. These programmatic pillars would also not be possible without the generosity of our donors, funders, and volunteers.
The pursuit of our mission is never fully over — we believe that the arts are the threads that connect us in this tapestry of humanity. We implore you to think about all the LYNX you have been a part of as well as those that you can help create by encouraging every voice to be amplified in the arts and beyond.
We want to celebrate LYNX’s legacy and invite you to our special culminating event in Chicago this spring, highlighting the communities we have built through the Amplify Series and Composition of a City. This event will be in-person and a livestream will be available as well. Stay tuned for a formal invitation and we hope you’ll be able to join us and give us the opportunity to thank you — for all you have done, the voices you have lifted, the music you have shared, and the community you have built.
As we close this chapter of LYNX, we leave you with this: how will you speak into the world?
With gratitude,
Team LYNX
